What is Boloro?
Boloro is a global mobile payments system which allows customers to pay in-store & online using their mobile phone, using a patented secure PIN authentication method. Boloro directly charges customer’s mobile phone balance, wallet, or bank account.

How does Boloro work for Online Purchases?
Boloro integrates with a merchant’s checkout page, offering an additional payment option for customers. Customers wanting to pay with Boloro can then simply enter their mobile number and choose to pay using mobile phone balance, mobile wallet, or bank account. The customer will receive a PIN authorization request on their mobile phone and once they securely authorize the payment, the transaction is processed and the online merchant gets a confirmation from Boloro.

How does Boloro work for In-Store purchases?
Boloro works with all types of acceptance devices. Be it a cash register, POS terminal, Windows device, Android phone or Tablet, Boloro connects easily to the Merchant POS. Boloro also works with a special Boloro Point-of-Sale (POS) Reader that is easy to use. The customer can choose to pay using mobile phone balance, mobile wallet or bank account. For amounts less than US$5 the customer can simply tap their Boloro Sticker on the Boloro Reader and the payment amount will be automatically deducted from their mobile phone balance, mobile wallet or bank account. The customer will receive a PIN authorization request on their mobile phone and once they securely authorize the payment, the transaction is processed and the online merchant gets a confirmation from Boloro. The Boloro POS additionally offers a menu of country specific payment acceptance applications such as Boloro TopUp, Utility Bill Payments, Loan Re-payments, Education Payments, etc.

How does Boloro work for buses and parking fees?
Boloro is the ideal answer to reducing queues for parking fees and bus fares. The Boloro Sticker allows a passenger to pay with a simple tap on the Boloro Reader.

How does Boloro work for Bill Payments?
Boloro has simplified bill payments. Customers can indicate the kind of bill being paid and the cashier can input the required information and the customer’s mobile number, allowing them to choose to pay using mobile phone balance, mobile wallet or bank account. The customer will receive a PIN authorization request on their mobile phone and once they securely authorize the payment, the transaction is processed and the online merchant and biller both get a confirmation from Boloro.

Do I need a phone line to operate the POS terminal?
No. Boloro POS Terminals come with a SIM card which uses secure mobile network connectivity at no charge to the Merchant.

Does the Boloro POS Terminal have power back in case of electricity outage?
The Boloro POS Terminal doesn’t need an electric connection. It has full battery support and needs an electric connection only to charge.

What if customer does not have enough money on their mobile phone?
In the event that a customer doesn’t have a sufficient mobile phone balance, mobile wallet or bank account, the transaction will not be authorized by Boloro.

How quickly will Boloro pay me?
Settlement is done on a daily basis. Depending on the options available in-country, Boloro aims to pay merchants on the next day.

Do I need to keep a track of money owed from each Issuer?
No. Boloro provides merchants access to a transaction portal and daily settlement reports are sent via email.

Can I link this system to my retail checkout system?
Yes. Boloro can link to your online and/or in-store checkout systems and our technical team can work with you to understand your systems and begin implementation.

How does Boloro manage charge-backs?
Boloro’s system is built to manage charge-backs just like any other payment system. Merchants can raise a charge-back request from the Boloro portal.

How do I begin to accept Boloro Payments?

What is the benefit of SMS Info/ Alerts?
Boloro SMS Info/Alerts keep track of every transaction and also serves as proof of purchase.

Can a customer unsubscribe from this service?
Yes. To unsubscribe from Boloro, customers can simply send an SMS to the Boloro short code in each market.

What to do if a customer wants to lodge a complaint for a duplicate transaction or for refund of goods for any reasons?
Merchants can either perform the reversal through a Partner Portal or refer it to the local Boloro office for processing.

What to do if a customer disputes the transaction for reasons other than mentioned above?
The merchant can record the complaint in the Customer Complaint Module. The Local Boloro Office will review the complaint log daily, investigate, take appropriate action, inform the related parties, and update the system.
